October 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

By the time this Edition reaches you, we will hopefully have remained in full functioning mode for 8 weeks! This has been achieved due to your immense support, understanding and cooperation.

The optimistic and positive attitude in Our Lady of Fatima School since we opened in August is a credit to our parents and to all the staff and students who work within.

I would like to thank everyone concerned and to wish you all a very happy, relaxing midterm. We all need this break so please leave any questions or queries until we reopen on Monday 2nd November!

Happy Halloween!

Rita Waters

Reminder to all parents:

NB If your child has been absent due to Covid19, it is imperative that a parent/guardian completes a Declaration form on their child’s return to school. The link is below. It is also to be found on class platforms (Seesaw, Class Dojo) and has been sent via text and email.

COMMUNION CELEBRATION

Big Congratulations to the four boys in Junior 3 who made their First Holy Communion on 30th of September, Kyle, Fergal, Stephen and Tyler. They are seen here on their special day with Father Áodhan.

Our Monday and Friday mornings have been brightened by the dulcet tones of our resident DJs Weldy and Sheehan on the airwaves of Fatima FM. The brainchild of our school wellbeing committee, the lively duo play song requests for both students and staff. They also give shout-outs to students celebrating their birthdays, tell (bad) jokes, present us with riddles and run competitions. What a great way to begin and end each week!

Halloween Dress up

This year Our Lady of Fatima School decided to run our annual Halloween Dress up – digitally. It was a great success. Students dressed up at home, took a picture and sent it to their class teacher. All the class winners were collated and all the whole school community was able to vote for their favourite by using an online voting system in class. There were film characters, evil clowns and zombies amongst the finalists. Well done to all who took part and made an excellent effort to make this a fun activity!

AND THE WINNER IS ………………………………..

Ava from Middle 3, a very convincing
“Old Hag from Snow White”.

Well done Ava!

Digital Technology News:

New Promethean Interactive white boards have been installed in the middle classes 1-4. They are a fantastic development and aid in helping the delivery of the
JCL2 programme.

A big thank you to Sulzer Pumps Limited who have kindly donated 10 High Spec towers to our school. We especially thank Lorcan Doyle who ensured their safe delivery (via staff member Richie Kehoe).

The Junior section of our school have also been delighted with the arrival of a new set of iPads along with a mobile caddy. A valuable tool for both teaching and learning in the classroom.

Junior One have been busy this month learning all about Autumn.
They looked at and collected Autumn leaves which they then used for art.
They looked at conkers and “helicopters” from the Horse Chestnut and Sycamore trees. They made hedgehogs from clay, painted trees in Autumn and even tasted some Autumn fruits.

They’ve been having great fun while learning!

A big thank you and well done to all Senior 4 students for all their work and dedication this month.

  • October 5th National Tree Day. Senior 4 planted an Ash Tree opposite Senior 2 Classroom.
  • Woodwork classes in Selskar College have begun. Students are due to finish their first piece of woodwork this week. Following this they will begin their Junior Cert Level 3 Projects for their exams.
  • The School Leavers Ability Project started last Wednesday 14th October for all School Leavers 20/21. Amy Liston from the project will commence working on a one to one basis with the students from October 22nd .
  • Senior 4 are taking part in a friendly but very competitive “Last Man Standing” in the Premier League. We have five students, Sarah (SNA) & Kitija (WIT Student) still standing !!!!
  • Students from the Senior part of the school have started practicing for the South Leinster Zoom Quiz which will take place next term.

Middle 3: Recently inspired by the beautiful garden created by Middle 1, Middle 3 began a big clean-up on the area outside their classroom. They have constructed a raised bed and planted bulbs which they hope will blossom in Springtime. We wish to thank Drinagh Garden Centre and Springmount Garden Centre for donating additional plants and seeds. Another Month finished ? Middle 1 are working really hard with all their work, especially their Halloween art where they created their own Halloween door……very scary.

Work is also continuing on our sensory garden as we have collected the material for our rainbow! The rainbow will be made out of shells. All the students in M1 have been busy painting these. We also got materials for our sensory boards for our garden. More to come next month!!!
