Our Vision and Mission
Our Lady of Fatima School was founded in 1968 with a mission to provide specialised education for children with mild general learning difficulties. Located in Wexford, the school moved to its current site in 1972 and now serves 117 students from the greater Wexford area. Students typically arrive at the school by bus, underscoring its commitment to accessibility and community integration. The school’s founding principle was to offer a nurturing environment tailored to meet the unique educational needs of its students, helping each child reach their full potential.
The vision and mission of Our Lady of Fatima School revolve around creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. Our mission is to provide a happy and secure learning atmosphere where we value and develop the whole person, celebrating each student’s uniqueness and personal qualities. Our ethos is rooted in Christian values, emphasising care, compassion, hospitality, trust, dignity, respect, and diversity. These values underpin our commitment to ensuring that each child is central to our educational approach, with individualised programs designed to cater to their specific needs. As a nurturing school, we take the dignity and respect of every member of our school community very seriously, recognising that everyone has a vital role to play and is of equal importance.
Despite the school’s small physical space, we have developed various areas to support our students’ sensory and physical development. We have a sensory garden, an expanded playground, a junior playground, and a resurfaced basketball court. Additionally, we have an outdoor gym to encourage physical activity. We also provide numerous opportunities for students to participate in outdoor and extracurricular activities, utilising local amenities such as The Railway Yard Gallops for horse riding & equine Therapy, Wexford Gymnastics Club for gymnastics, WHBTC for tennis, and other community facilities.
Our educational programmes are comprehensive, covering primary, junior, and senior cycles, and include a variety of all-inclusive initiatives. We emphasise holistic development through initiatives like the BLAST programme, Creative Schools programme, and Digital School of Distinction. These programmes, along with our involvement in e-twinning and Erasmus, not only enhance our educational offerings but also connect our students with the broader European community. The school has also embraced digital technology to enhance the learning experience, providing students with extensive access to digital tools that support and enrich their education. Our commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) ensures that our staff are always equipped with the latest skills and knowledge to support our students effectively. This dedication to excellence, alongside a nurturing environment, and the holistic development of each child embodies the true spirit of Our Lady of Fatima School.
